More than 40 died in Malakal camp clash – Onyoti

Description:

The Leader of Minority in the national assembly says more than 40 people were killed during a clash at the UN camp in Malakal last month.

Onyoti Adigo Nyikuec was referring to an investigation by representatives of two communities who were in the camp.

‘‘The people who died in Malakal are so many, you have 26 plus 23 is 49, and there are some who are missing around 26 they are assumed dead also,” Onyoti said.

For its part, UNMISS referred to the figures released by the medical charity, MSF, which said 18 people were killed and others injured.

‘There were other figures here and there. I know the Shilluk also is giving other figures and am speaking on the figures I was given,” the Spokesperson Ariane Quentier told Eye Radio.

She said the mission is still conducting its own investigations.

Both UNMISS and government say the fighting started between communities inside the camp.
