Mr Yakani is a South Sudanese national with extensive experience in managing and conducting training and research on security sector reform, governance, human rights, rule of law and gender. With previous professional experience working for organizations such as the African Security Sector Network, ACCORD South Africa and the Overseas Development Institute, Mr Yakani brings a wealth of experience and in-depth knowledge of the South Sudanese context and has experience in gender mainstreaming with specific focus on land ownership, public funds and policy development. He has also undertaken monitoring and evaluation work and several technical reports.
Most recently, Mr Yakani has worked as a national consultant assessing the situation of women, security and peace in South Sudan with reference to UN Resolution 1325, which affirms the importance of women in the prevention and resolution of conflicts and stresses their equal participation and full involvement in all efforts for the maintenance and promotion of peace and security. He has also evaluated the UNWOMEN strategy for South Sudan as an assistant consultant for the Overseas Development Institute (ODI). In this capacity he also evaluated women’s engagement in the April 2010 elections and referendum, and provided a technical report and recommendations for improvement of the strategy.
Mr Yakani holds a degree in Political Studies from the University of Juba, a degree in Law from the University of Juba College of Law and a diploma on Gender and Paralegal Aid from Khartoum Academic.
