Gender activists in Gbudwe State have raised concerns of rape after an elderly woman died in the hands of a suspected rapist in Yambio, Gbudwe.
Police say the 80-year-old woman was raped and killed on Wednesday night.
“She was trying to defend herself from the men but because she was old and powerless, she could not free herself from the rapist,” said Mary William, officer in the Unit for Women and Children’s rights.
Ms William said the body of the old woman was found dumped next to her house.
A similar incident happened in Yambio last year when a 75-year-old woman was raped. She later died from injuries she sustained during the sexual attack.
Meanwhile, the Mayor of Yambio Town, Daniel Badabgu says a teacher and his wife were killed in Yambio suburb on the same night.
He said the teacher was known for writing Azande books and developing the language in school curriculum.
“He was shot together with his wife at night the day before yesterday at his residential area of Bakiwiri, a few kilometers from Yambio town,” Mr Badagbu explained.
However, the motive of the killings is unclear.
Mr Daniel called on the citizens to not panic and assured the people that that the situation is being controlled.
