Juba June 2nd 2015, Civil Society Organization, Community Empowerment for Progress Organization (CEPO) refutes the government decision to expel the United Nations Humanitarian Coordinator Toby Lanzer who have been instrumental in addressing the increasing humanitarian needs of conflict-affected communities in the country, and ensuring that life-saving humanitarian assistance reaches the most vulnerable people in South Sudan.
Mr. Edmund Yakani, Executive Director of CEPO says the government decision to expel the humanitarian coordinator is absolutely unacceptable at the current moment where there is humanitarian crisis in the country.
“In strong terms, CEPO calls upon the Government of South Sudan to reconsider revising its decisions on the United Nations Humanitarian Coordinator since this unacceptable move that will tantamount a strong stand against realization of International Humanitarian Law which will have negative implication on South Sudan”.
South Sudan government has international goals to ensure that the humanitarian operation is treated impartially without any political interference. South Sudan being member of the United Nation should respect, uphold and promote the international humanitarian law.
