Four killed in Western Lakes cattle raid

Description:

At least four people were killed and one person injured in a cattle raid incident in Paloch County of Western Lakes State, authorities said.

Eastern Lakes State’s deputy governor, Taban Abel told Radio Tamazuj on Wednesday that armed youth from his state moved from Yirol County on Monday night and launched attacks on a cattle camp in neighboring Western Lakes State. He further said Monday’s attack left two people dead and one injured from the side of attackers. Abel said the armed youth from his state made away with 17 cows, but they are being followed by state authorities and would be brought to book. "We know their leader called Yai Bol and we will arrest him. We will return the looted cows to Western Lakes," he stressed. On his part, the Western Lakes State Information minister, Majak Isaac Ror confirmed Monday’s incident, but said the attackers killed three people, including a woman in Paloch County. "These youth launched the attack on Paloch County on Monday night, killing three people," he said. Cattle raids have claimed several lives since South Sudan’s independence in 2011. Cattle are a main source of wealth for many communities.
