Juba, May 17th 2017, The Constitution of Women Parliamentary Caucus is being reviewed in a three day workshop organized by Status of Women Initiative SOWI.
Speaking during the opening of the workshop, the Chariperson of Women Parliamentary Caucus Hon. Dusman Joyce James said the review will lead to an amendment of the constitution and drawing of strategic plan for the caucus. Dusman noted that article 11 of the constitution which demands for the appointment of the caucus' chairperson will be amended so that it is elected according to the three greater regions of the country.
Three positions of advisiors will also be included in the constitution, said the Chairperson. She said after the amendment, the position of the chairspon will be rotational according to the three regions of Greater Bahr-el-Ghazel, Equatoria and Upper Nile. After the three days, the amended constitution will be tabled in the parliament and passed by the women parliamentary caucus according to Dusman.
Better Sunday, the Chief Excutive Offi er at CEPO heading the Status of Women Initiative (SOWI) working with women parliamentarians said the workshop aims to amend the current constittuion, and draw a strategic plan of 2017 to 2020. She said her Organization supports women parliamentarians as they play a big role in raising voices of women, and advocacte for the welfare of women in parliament as well as communities.
The national legislature of the women parliamentarians' caucus seeks to ensure gender sensitive laws, political processes and equality in resource allocation to improve the qualirty of life of women. The caucus gives women power to make decisions in the parliament on things regarding women, according to Dusman.
