At least two people were killed and 15 heads of cattle raided in Ger County of Eastern Lakes State last week, an official said. The commissioner of Ger County, Michael Mayor Malak, told Radio Tamazuj Monday that suspected armed youths from Eastern Bahr Naam County of Western Lakes State carried out the attack. He identified those killed as Chien Ror Chien and Deng Marop Cingothdit. Malak said, “The commissioner of Paloch county of Western Lakes State said he has rescued two cows from the raiders and one of them has now been arrested by Western Lakes State authorities”. The commissioner further said cattle theft is still a challenge in border areas. “Cattle raiders go from Eastern Lakes State to Western Lakes State and raiders from Eastern Lakes State go to Western Lakes and Amadi States for purposes of raiding goats and cows,” Malak said. Cattle raids have claimed several lives since South Sudan’s independence in 2011. Cattle are a main source of wealth for many communities.
