Police have arrested three men for allegedly killing one of their friends in Torit West County of Torit state. The incident occurred in Lowoi village when the three men allegedly beat ttheir friend to death over cultural norms on June 15. Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Tuesday, Torit State police spokesperson, Lt. Col. Mathew Ochan Jacob confirmed that three men killed one of their friends. “On 16th [June] in the morning, we got information from Lowoi village in Torit West [County] that three civilians beat one of their friends to death. The incident occurred at around 10:00 am on 15 of this month,” he said. “The deceased is Thomas Daniel Jovani, 29, from the same area. The three suspects are Simon Silveno Kwaje, Joseph Celerino Abuya and Paul Lawrence Okwachimoi,” he added. Thomas met his death as they argued over the different styles each camp uses when blowing trumpets, according to the police officer.
“This is the cause, until the three men beat Thomas to death. They were brought to prison today [Monday] and we are currently investigating those in custody,” said Ochan. Similar incidences, the officer said, occur within the area every year. He warned communities against utilizing cultures in negative ways.
