At least 5 people were confirmed dead and 3 others injured in a road accident along the Juba-Nimule highway on Tuesday afternoon.
The accident occurred when a commercial truck collided with a Toyota Noah van with eight passengers on board.
“Yes, there was an accident at Ashwa village between Juba and Nimule, Toyota Noah collided with a heavy trailer killing five people and three others were critically injured at around noon,” South Sudan Police Spokesperson, Daniel Justin Buola confirmed to Radio Tamazuj.
Justin said the dead included one Rwandan national and the rest were South Sudanese nationals.
He noted that the wounded were rushed to Juba Teaching Hospital where they are receiving treatment.
The police official also revealed that the driver of the trailer was immediately arrested and will be charged.
Justin said investigations have been launched to ascertain the cause of the accident.
