An internally displaced person was abducted by security agents near the UN Protection of Civilians Site in South Sudan’s capital Juba on Sunday, a camp leader said.
Duom Kubuong, a community leader in the camp predominantly occupied by the Nuer tribe, told Radio Tamazuj that IDP Gatluak Juak was abducted by security agents and taken to an unknown destination. He further said elements of the Military Intelligence service using a Land Cruiser vehicle kidnapped the IDP outside the UN base at Jebel area on Sunday.
“I don’t know how he was caught by MI near the gate,” he said. “He was arrested and forced into the vehicle, and up to now we don’t know his whereabouts, up to now we don’t know the reason.”
“If it is because he was a soldier before, most of the people inside the camp were soldiers before,” he added.
Dom explained that they informed all camp leaders and UN peacekeepers about the incident. The camp leader condemned the incident after a peace agreement had been signed by the government and rebels in August.
“There is peace, and up to now we don’t know what is the problem after the peace, it means that what was signed is not genuine,” he stressed.
