12 killed in Tonj state cattle raid

Description:

Official. At least 12 people were killed and 11 others injured after cattle raiders attacked civilians in Akop County in South Sudan’s Tonj State, a local official said on Thursday. Santino Manut, the media director at the state ministry of information, told Radio Tamazuj that at least 12 people were killed and 11 others wounded in the incident earlier this week. He added that the attackers made away with more than 190 cows on Sunday and Monday. The local official accused bandits from Northern Liech and Southern Liech states of involvement in the attack. He pointed out that tension has since gripped the area after the incident as Apuk-Padoc people are now living in fear that the cattle rustlers might attack again. According to Santino, the state governor urged all residents of Akop County not to retaliate. “Residents of Akop County have not moved to recover the stolen cattle,” he said. Government officials in Northern Liech and Southern Liech states could not immediately be reached for comment.
