Top leaders of South Sudan warring parties to join peace talks on Thursday

Juba, August 13th 2015, Intergovernmental Authority for Development (IGAD) has called the leaders of South Sudan warring parties for a face to face meeting in the Ethiopian Capital Addis Ababa. President Salva Kiir and the leader of SPLM-IO are expected to meet on Thursday prior the deadline set for reaching peace in August 17th 2015.

Mr. Edmund Yakani, Executive Director of CEPO says through quick assessment the organization has conducted, the citizens said the negotiating parties are prioritizing power sharing as an option of reaching a peace deal and this might spark violent conflict if one side is not contented.

“Through the quick citizens’ assessment, the citizens said it is very clear the negotiating parties are prioritizing power sharing as the paramount issue for reaching peace deal”

Yakani further said violent conflict might erupt if the peace deal is imposed on the warring parties, this is according to the people reached in the government controlled areas, meanwhile a meager percentage of those reached in the assessment has hope for August 17th 2015 Peace deal.

In strong terms CEPO calls upon the authorities in the leadership to urgently get out publicly prior 17th August 2015   and assure the citizens not worry of outbreak of violence since the level of panic among the citizens is high.

The two principals should give peace chance by 17th August 2015, how biter the political difference among the warring parties is, they should bring peace by signing a peace accord on the 17th August 2015. Under CEPO’s Countdown For Peace, 5 Days To Make Peace Happen.
