CEPO COMMENDS PARTIES FOR COMPLIANCE WITH 35% FOR WOMEN PARTICIPATION IN THE R-TGoNU CABINET

March 13th, 2020 (Juba, South Sudan) Community Empowerment for Progress Organization (CEPO) congratulates the presidency for the remarkable move as a demonstration of political commitment for genuine implementation of the peace agreement. The political parties compliance with the agreed upon affirmative action of 35% for women in the executive  is observed as per article 1.4.4 of the Revitalized Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in the Republic of South Sudan (R-ARCSS).

Community Empowerment for Progress Organization (CEPO) therefore, expects that the next appointments of Members of Parliament both at national and state levels, State Governors, State Governments and Local Governments follow in the same spirit of observing the 35% affirmative action for participation of women at all levels of government.

We applaud the newly appointed cabinet for winning the trust of their various political parties’ leadership, and specially the ministers of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation; Defense and Veteran Affairs; Parliamentary Affairs; Agriculture and Food Security; Environment and Forestry; General Education and Instruction; Health; Gender, Child, and Social Welfare and Culture, Museums, and National Heritage.

We urge the various cabinet ministers to utilize their energies and resources in prioritizing delivery of quality services to the people of South Sudan in an effective and efficient manner in line with good governance principles of justice and rule of law, fairness, participation and inclusion, transparency and accountability.

Community Empowerment for Progress Organization (CEPO) commits to providing oversight observation reports on the performance of the Revitalized Transitional Government of National Unity in implementing the Revitalized Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in South Sudan.
