Security arrest, release radio journalist

Description:

National Security Service personnel who detained radio journalist Gale Julius after a court session in Juba last night released him at about 5:30 p.m. last night.

Radio Tamazuj was informed that the security were displeased that the journalist had taken photos inside the court, saying they did not want their boss Thomas Duoth photographed. Security personnel have harrassed and obstructed journalists covering the court sessions yesterday and today.

National Security's directors-general for internal and external security were summoned by the Juba high court judge to testify in a case involving corruption at the Office of the President. Only the director for external security showed up at the court yesterday.

16 people are on trial in relation to alleged embezzlement of funds at the presidency. Among them is an administrative official at the presidency, John Agou, who has also been identied as a National Security officer, which is one of the reasons the NSS chiefs were asked to testify.
