At least 8 killed in tribal clashes in Eastern Lakes

Description:

Officials in South Sudan’s Eastern Lakes State have confirmed that at least 8 people were killed and more than 20 others injured in tribal clashes on Tuesday. Taban Abel Eastern Lakes Information Minister told Radio Tamazuj on Thursday that an armed group of youth suspected to be from Pakam Clan carried out sporadic attacks in different areas of Nyang and Yirol North counties. “Eight people were killed and more than 20 others were injured in Nyang and Yirol North counties. What happened is that Pakam youth disagreed with the local youth over cattle theft leading to the attacks on Tuesday and Wednesday,” he said. He said the attacks were in Wunthou area in Yirol North County and Pagarau and Machuor area of Nyang County. Abel revealed that state security forces intervened to quell the situation.
