Flood-affected citizens in Maban in dire need of aid

Description:

Officials in Northeast Maban County of Northern Upper Nile state say hundreds of people are in dire need of humanitarian aid after they were displaced by heavy rains and floods.

The County Commissioner, Siman Al Noor told Radio Tamazuj on Thursday that heavy rains have destroyed several houses last week, displacing the local population to open grounds.

“Houses of the Sudanese refugees in Doro, Yousif Bateel, Jendrasa, and Kaya camps have been destroyed as well,” he added.

He pointed out that most of the affected families have started moving back to their homes, after the rains reduced in the last few days.

Al Noor called on aid agencies working in the country to quickly intervene and assist the affected families, noting that the aid provided by local organizations was not sufficient to meet the demands on the ground.

Last week, the office of the UNHCR revealed a report saying more than 200, 000 people including Sudanese refugees, have been affected by floods in Maban.
