Early Saturday morning, the tribal forces of Salva Kiir Mayerdit bombarded in-discriminatorily

Description:

On 3.12.2016. Nimule. Early Saturday morning, the tribal forces of Salva Kiir Mayerdit bombarded in-discriminatorily and with heavy artilleries gunfire on small group of fishermen on a small island located between the tributary of River Aswa (Acca) and River Nile, the fishing island is located roughly 14km away from Loa Boma, in the proposed Pageri County. One of the clan elders from the area said the island has offered good fishing ground for fishermen in the area for more than 500 years, he added attacking and shelling the island in uncivilized manner by the soldiers undermined the livelihood of the people who depend on it for food and also school fees for their children, this is “abomination and unacceptable” he said.  The in-discriminatory shelling by the SPLA army near the river Nile, where River Aswa enters the Nile has nearly caused two fishermen their lives that the soldiers directly fired upon to nearly drawn. The soldiers fired both light machine guns and heavy artilleries for about an hour towards the direction of the fishing camps of local fishermen, forcing some fishermen to abandon their camps. It is not clear what the motivation for firing those gunshots was. No fatalities have been reported.
