10 killed, 10 others injured in Jonglei cattle raid

At least 10 people were killed and 10 others injured when armed men attacked Jalle payam in Bor County Jonglei State on Wednesday, officials said. “The attack happened in Pamom cattle camp. They killed 10 people, including two women and two children. They made away with over 1,000 cows. Those injured are now receiving treatment at Bor hospital,” Deng Riak, the Executive Director of the defunct Bor North County, told Radio Tamazuj. He added, “Residents have deserted the village because of fear. The attackers were identified to be from the Murle [tribe]”. Riak said area youth pursued the attackers to recover stolen cattle. The state police commissioner, Major-General Joseph Mayen Akoon also confirmed the cattle raid incident in Jalle payam. Pibor officials could not immediately be reached for comment. The communities of greater Jonglei state have for long been wrangling leading to cattle raids and child abductions.
